Man Ray, born Emmanuel Radnitzky (1890-1976), was an American artist who made significant contributions to the fields of modern art and photography. He was born on August 27, 1890, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Man Ray is best known for his work in the Surrealist movement, which emerged in the 1920s. He was associated with a group of artists and writers who sought to explore the realm of the subconscious and create art that challenged traditional conventions. In 1921, Man Ray moved to Paris, where he became an active participant in the Surrealist movement. During World War II, Man Ray left Europe and settled in Los Angeles, where he continued his artistic pursuits and expanded his experimentation with film and photography. He returned to Paris in 1951 and remained there until his death on November 18, 1976
