Agnes Martin was a Canadian-American abstract artist known for her minimalist paintings that explore the relationship between color, line, and space. She was born in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1912 and grew up in the United States. Martin studied art at various institutions, including Columbia University and the University of New Mexico, and worked as an art teacher before devoting herself full-time to her art in the 1950s. Martin's paintings are characterized by their grid-like compositions, which are often made up of pale, subtle colors and delicate lines. She died in 2004 at the age of 92.
